More info on the neighborhood
This district is home to the famous Palais Longchamp, a 6-minute walk from the apartment (400 m). Built around the Palais Longchamp, it is a traditional and authentic district of Marseille, which has within it many bourgeois buildings formerly reserved for the notables of La Canebière. Heart of the city, Longchamp is full of bourgeois and Haussmann apartments, as well as small townhouses. Shopping life is also lively thanks to the presence of many exceptional brasseries and bakeries, as well as concept stores. Longchamp is, so to speak, a dynamic district which nevertheless enjoys a certain tranquility. The Longchamp Palace is a neoclassical-Second Empire style water palace-water tower from the 19th century, in the Cinq-Avenues district of the 4th arrondissement of Marseille, in the Bouches-du-Rhône in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur . The site has been listed as a historical monument since October 1, 1974 and has been classified since November 18, 1997 and September 8, 19991. Inaugurated in 1869, the palace is made up of several entities: the central water tower-pavilion, the water reservoir of the Durance, arriving by the 85 km Marseille canal, as the main historical source of drinking water and sanitation for the city of Marseille. the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Marseille (in the left wing of the palace) the natural history museum of Marseille (in the right wing of the palace, under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, classified museum of France in 2002). a public garden (in front) with green space, cascading pools, and allegorical statues to the glory of water, fertility, and abundance. Longchamp Park (behind the palace) with Marseille observatory, botanical garden, and zoological park (animals have been replaced by animal art sculptures since Marseille-Provence 2013).
